I've never only used the laptop; I like to have a hardware synth, or at least a Fender Rhodes as a back up.) The application that has been working well for me is something called Mainstage, which comes with Logic Studio. I used to use Logic for my live synths, but Mainstage is really set up for a keyboardist to mold to his or her desires. Ahhhh, the main stage. What could we really say about something like this? Here you'll laugh, cry, and cheer like the crowd from Gladiator. We're gonna be completely honest here, we haven't seen this movie in a while. But once we finish this convention, it's on our things to do list.
Click to expand.Yeah, Mainstage you can easily run an instance of the Apple plugin Pedalboard before and after S-Gear. Pedalboard has distortions (that are so-so), mods, delays, and rotary speaker (all excellent), etc. You can also run Logic's fx which are plentiful, tons of delays and reverbs. Last time I needed tremolo I just used the Amplitube Princeton, though.
It has tremolo built in. The Apple Amp Designer amps also all have tremolo and reverb built in. And some of those amps sound fine. I have run run real pedals before S-Gear to great effect. I also really like the Ignite Amps free plugin Tube Screamer, which actually leans more to SD-1/Fulldrive. It sounds great as a mild boost and plays well with S-Gear.
Click to expand.I suppose it's cool that you don't ever feel the need to use any fx beyond delay or reverb. Obviously, there's nothing wrong with you mainly using tremolo in the 70's and once in the 90's. However, tremolo use has continued in modern music. There are tons of examples in modern music. The Black Keys, 'Howlin' For You is one example. Tremolo was all over that Allison Krause & Robert Plant cover tunes album. I use tremolo on a couple of my own songs plus a few covers of old and newer, roots and rock music.
Personally, I don't feel like I have to have any fx to play a song. Rumble roses jpn isogenics. And, I'll substitute trem for vibe, or chorus for Leslie.
If no fx are a available, I'll play dry. For overdriven rhythm playing, I prefer a dry amp. Most of what I play is rhythm.
I like the idea of using guitar rig for fx. But, if I do use S-Gear live, I would probably use my Zoom MultiStomp for fx.
I wasn't sure if I was going to get S-Gear. I may never use it live. But, my Mom just sent me $100 for my birthday and I can't think of anything better to spend it on.
