GNS3 L2 IOU VM Cisco Switch. Complete GNS3 installing and configuration with cisco IOU and IOS. In a video created to demonstrate how software licensing mechanisms work, I describe the process that Cisco IOS on UNIX (IOU) uses to verify a particular license key is a valid one. Download 3640 Switch IOS image for Gns3 3600 Series: GNS3 is network simulator and offers number of ways to emulate Cisco Image or other IOS. YOu can run different Cisco IOS images in gns3 with Dynamips. In Gns3 by default there is no way of running Cisco switch, but using Cisco 3640 IOS image you can convert your router into switch.
I know this is completely off topic, but what would guys recommend as a lab if I have 64gig of ram, i7, 8TB, and a 48port 3750 Cisco Switch? I have been using GNS3, but if a virtual lab(vmware) works better, I would jump on it. Definitely do it. Light solution would be run vIOS routers on your PC and connect to switch. Best solution run CSR1000 and your switch. Your PC is pretty well, it can run 10xCSR1000 easy.
But for config part lab I think is quite enough wit vIOS. More vIOS has L2 image now what is much better that present L2 ios what we have for IOU. But still missing features, like L3 etherchannel. Not a big problem. But for TS part was and is the best IOU.
Cisco runs TS on IOU. Definitely do it. Light solution would be run vIOS routers on your PC and connect to switch. Best solution run CSR1000 and your switch.
Your PC is pretty well, it can run 10xCSR1000 easy. But for config part lab I think is quite enough wit vIOS. More vIOS has L2 image now what is much better that present L2 ios what we have for IOU. But still missing features, like L3 etherchannel.

The PC also has 4 NICs and I could add more as needed, however it currently has Win8.1 ENT and I'm using VMware Workstations 10 (nested vSphere with 2 nested esxi host). I'm currently going for my CCNA Security, therefore I would like to be able to use the ASAv, IPS, ACS, Switchport security, etc. The more I can virtualize the better.
I rather get more ram, than having to use real gear. I'm currently looking at the Virtual Security ESXi lab, but I'm not sure if my PC should be using Win8.1 and VMware Workstation or convert it into an ESXi host. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
Hello, Can somebody please tell me why on VMWare Workstation 10, when I connect 2 switches with 3 interface (g0/0 - 3) the root Bridge has only 1 interface in FWD state and the other 2 in BLK state? I tried with LAN Segments (all 3 interfaces belonging to the same LAN Segment) as well with Custom VMNET (all 3 have same VMNET). In KVM (ubuntu server) I get the same result.Thank you!
Because its crap! Get a real switch, dont waste your time with this VM. It crashes also. The L3 VM is fine, no issues there •. @Jages friend as you already help lot on this topic but i have 1 request would you please provide ova file of vios-L2 image.and now days i heard lot about labing and creating topology on vmware without need of gns3 would you pease guide me how to do and video you have to explain vmware workstation for lab Hello!
Everything has been shared in the first post, btw those aren't ova files, 'only' the vmdk bitmap, which is more than enough to play, it loves memory at least 350MB and only e1000 cards, that's the point. I'm not playing with vmware, but it is pretty easy, why play you with it if you don't know it? If you want to only routers/switches vmware isn't neccessary, only for more hardcore projects.
